Carving my own Avtar: I am not your Superwoman
Carving your identity, your own Avtar is not an easy job. For women, even more so. As women grow and excel, they often are addressed as ‘Superwoman’- A woman of unending resources, self-determination, strength, wisdom, and mental stamina. It is a picture on a pedestal under the spotlight. Does this static picture, this idea accommodate the human within the woman? Does this picture paint those tired sighs, those bad days and times when you just can’t get out of bed? Every superwoman has her struggles and small misses- perfectly normal human tendencies. We have favoured ‘the strong women’ that we forgot ‘the kind ones, ‘the loud ones’ and ‘the ones that bring cookies to the office”.
Somewhere along the line, did we tighten the narrative so much that we do not have space for accommodating these tendencies? Women chasing the ideal that can never be achieved. Are they the modern-day retelling of Tantulus, who was close enough to the prize every time but never enough to touch it?
Workshop
Personal Branding by Lakshmi Jeyaraman, Divisional Manager, Training, Avtar Group
Personal branding matters more than it ever did not only because of the significant market value it carries with it, but also because of the opportunities it offers. Personal branding is not a “nice to have” today – it is an essential element for all professionals who want to advance, thrive, and grow. We need to have clarity on exactly what we stand for in the world, and how we stand apart from others, and communicate that competitive difference with confidence and clarity. If one can't do this, he/she will lack the visibility and recognition one needs to reach the next level of success. For women in particular, a strong personal brand can open the door to new business and career opportunities. Personal brand is a combination of all your real-life interactions. Look for the following takeaways from this interactive workshop by the expert at Avtar.

I have your back: The Importance of Sponsors at workplaces
Once women enter the workforce and begin to climb the corporate ladder toward executive leadership, it is an imperative that she makes herself visible to sponsors, leaders and key executives who can play a role in her career progression and help her find a place in the leadership realm. It’s important for those on the journey to know their role does not end there, but also extends towards building sponsorship culture at workplace and help sponsoring many more capable and talented women out there.
