Logitech designs products that have an everyday place in people's lives, connecting them to the digital experiences they care about. We bring people together through gaming, video, digital content, work and learning, helping them pursue their passions so they can create, achieve and enjoy more.?
In 1981, Logitech was founded in the village of Apples, Switzerland, by Daniel Borel, Pierluigi Zappacosta and Giacomo Marini. It was named as such because of the software background of the three founders - a mix of logi (short for the French “logiciel”) and tech (“technologie”).
After decades of success built around the burgeoning PC market, Logitech implemented a turnaround strategy after the company began suffering from the effects of the global economic downturn and the slowdown in PC sales. This strategy found further focus when Bracken Darrell became CEO in January 2013. Under his leadership, Logitech underwent a reinvention. The company’s approach was to:
Design: Become a design company. As a result the company has been recognized by hundreds of the world’s most prestigious design awards over the years.?
Cloud: Focus the business on fast-growing market opportunities driven by the cloud and cloud services, to become the world’s leading cloud peripheral company.
Capabilities: Nurture core capabilities to achieve sustained growth: Design, Engineering, Go-To-Market, Marketing and Operations.
Small company: Create a culture more like that of a smaller company; a fast, lean, humble and hungry company, open to change and with a flat, empowered hierarchy, rather than one encumbered by the bureaucracy of a big company.
These areas of focus have allowed Logitech successfully to tap into a number of long-term, secular growth trends. The company positioned itself against key trends early on, and saw them accelerate under the Covid-19 pandemic, namely: the rise of esports as a mainstream sport that also drives community-building and large audiences; the growing prevalence of video as a means to communicate and collaborate; remote work and learning, increasingly developing into a hybrid way of working anywhere; and lastly, the democratization of digital creativity and streaming, whereby individuals can express themselves and command audiences like big studios and media companies did of old.
The results to date speak for themselves. Since 2013, Logitech’s profitability has increased by a factor of nearly 18, and moved from -7 percent retail sales growth in constant currency to +74 percent in FY21. In FY21, the company delivered its sixth year of sales growth at or near double-digits in constant currency, with record sales at over $5 billion and record gross margins at 44.8%. In fact, in FY21, Logitech increased its sales by $2.28 billion year on year - almost the equivalent of adding another Logitech to its base.?
