TVS Motor Company is a reputed two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturer in India producing scooters, motorcycles, mopeds and three-wheelers. It ranks amongst the top ten two-wheeler companies in the world. TVS Motor Company is also the second largest two-wheeler and three-wheeler exporter in India, distributing to over 60 countries. The Company was born in 1979 as the flagship brand of the TVS Group, which was founded by T.V. Sundaram lyengar. Sitting at the helm is Venu Srinivasan whose persistent and diligent leadership, has led the Company to become the largest member of the USD 8.5 billion TVS Group in terms of size and turnover.
Headquartered in Chennai, the Company is known for its high quality and high-value-for-money products. It has a presence in all segments of the two-wheeler industry. More than 40 million customers ride a TVS vehicle in the country today. The Company has shaped the growth of the two-wheeler industry in India with many firsts to its credit, all of which have contributed to a highly profitable growth trajectory. In 2020, TVS Motor Company acquired the iconic British brand Norton Motorcycles which is among the most popular British motorcycle brands of all time and is one of the most emotive marques today. Norton Motorcycles is renowned for their classic models and eclectic range of luxury motorcycles ranging from authentic retro classic reboots of the famous Commando to the contemporary 200 bhp, 1200cc V4 super-bikes.

The Company is the first two-wheeler manufacturer in the world to be conferred with the prestigious Deming Prize for excellence in quality. The Company’s various products lead in their respective categories in the J.D. Power IQS and APEAL surveys for four years and it was ranked No. 1 in the J.D. Power Customer Service Satisfaction Survey for consecutive five years.
Diversity Initiatives
On our journey toward being the Best Organisation to work for, among various initiatives we have focused on Diversity & Inclusion as one of the primary pillars of top focus.
Despite making up a 50% of the global population, women generate just about 37% of the total GDP (in India it is 17%). Research report indicates that in India by 2025 working women professionals may grow to 41%. If, today we miss out on this talent pool, we will miss out on the talent and abilities of a vast majority.
In the medium term, we are aiming to enhance the gender ratio to 20%. We have started taking some important steps towards this in terms of enabling infrastructure, making our work place safer and ushering flexibility in various aspects at workplace.
Iit is heartening to see some of our women managers honoured with awards for Innovation, Leadership, ‘Women in Manufacturing Award’ and TVSM being recognized as “Best Organisation for Women Empowerment” in 2019 (** by the organization here).
The scope of ‘Women Employment and Talent Development’ in manufacturing comes with multi-fold challenges due to different work-clusters and work-environments existing in the same eco-system. As we abide by majority of common policies, the culture had to be skill-fully crafted ensuring enough agility to throw spotlight on the bright sparks in the organization.
The automotive industry is one of the biggest employment generators in the country, by sheer nature of its diversity and complexity. Hence, it is also one of the most competitive. The workforce in automotive industry is incredibly diverse. Developing competencies and skills aligned to specific functions is very critical here. Therefore, we focus on practices and initiatives specially tailored to address different set of workforces.
Some of the recent initiatives at TVSM include formulation of Women’s Resource Group (WRG), providing an informal platform for open discussions and developmental; Women in leadership mentoring program; Referral program to attract more women to join us and contribute towards the growth of our company. To develop an eco-system, we are also focusing of Cultural Sensitisation on removal of unconscious biases.
Providing wheels to diverse workforce has been the focus for more than three decades. In 2019 TVSM completed 25 Years of TVS Scooty Pep, empowering women through mobility and independence.
